The operating system for LPG retail

The till, the tank and the bank — agreeing by close of day.

Flux is an app that turns an ordinary Android phone into the site's till — live-priced, working offline, printing the buyer's receipt. At close it checks meter against cash against tank, follows the cash to the bank slip, and feeds the signed day into your books overnight.

80,214 sales

recorded on FLUX tills in 42 trading days — every one priced, receipted and on the ledger.

499.8 tonnes

of gas sold through the till, each kilogram tied to the scale that weighed it and the tank it left.

47 tills

one on every forecourt, on an ordinary Android phone with no POS hardware — 44 traded this week.

2,097a day

sales on an average day this week; 3,450 on the busiest, 7 September.

1,538cash-ups

site-days closed on a counted drawer — meter against cash against tank.

1,018deposits

banked, each with a photo of the slip and approved by a person before it counted.

499offline

sales rung with no signal at all — held on the phone and sent the moment it came back.

Measured from the live FLUX ledger. Voided sales are excluded. The offline count is conservative: it counts only phones whose clocks are proven right that day.

Why Flux exists

Paper books forgive too much.

We digitized a month of real remittance sheets from a 45-site LPG retailer. Here is what the paper was quietly absorbing — and what Flux flags the same evening.

From real July books
−3,876 kg

Phantom losses from uncounted sites

One day's book showed nearly four tonnes "lost" — about 90% of it was simply sites that never did a closing count. Flux never books a blank count as a loss, and nags every site at cutoff until counting is a habit.

From real July books
−0.6 kg / day

Real losses hide in the noise

One site leaked the same 0.6 kg every single day — a miscalibrated scale no daily threshold would catch. Flux detects per-site loss streaks, not just big one-day misses.

From real July books
+78.5 t

Silent restatements between days

Across one month, 78.5 tonnes arrived as quiet opening-balance rewrites that no single day's numbers could see — while one site ran a tonne below zero. Flux checks every opening against yesterday's remain, and flags negative stock the day it happens.

How it works

From forecourt to signed-off, in three moves.

The site sells — on the FLUX app

Attendants ring up every sale in the FLUX app: live-priced, printing a numbered receipt on a Bluetooth printer, with a WhatsApp copy if the buyer leaves a number. Sites still on paper photograph the sheet in the app, and it fills in the cash-up for the attendant to check.

Offline sales queue on the phone and replay when signal returns.

Flux reconciles on the spot

Meter vs cash vs tank, till vs sheet, depot ledger vs sheet, receipt-book and opening-balance continuity, line-by-line price checks, negative-stock and loss-streak flags — all before the attendant submits the cash-up.

A guided day-close shows the attendant live whether the day balances.

The office signs off

Every sheet walks the same chain as the paper did — keyed, collected, verified, checked — then BDM, Ops and MD sign the consolidated day. Corrections are append-only: old value, new value, who, why.

Each night the signed day feeds your double-entry books automatically.
Built for gas, not adapted to it

From the till to the trial balance, in one place.

Live POS till

Offline-capable sell screen with effective-dated prices per site, segment and currency. Receipt numbers continue the site's paper series.

Guided day close

The till supplies the expected; the attendant enters cash counted, meter dial and tank dip — each row flips ✓ or ⚠ live before submitting.

Printed receipts, on the spot

Every sale prints a numbered receipt straight from the app on a Bluetooth thermal printer. A WhatsApp copy is there if the buyer wants one.

Sheet scanner

Vision AI reads the paper sheet photo, pre-fills the keying form and verifies it against the site's profile. Every scan attempt is kept for diagnosis.

Three-way reconciliation

Meter vs cash vs tank on every sheet — plus till-vs-sheet and depot-ledger-vs-sheet checks the moment those sources exist.

Stock loss & continuity

Excess/loss per tank, site and region; every opening checked against yesterday's remain, with loss-streak and negative-stock flags.

Attendant cash box

Running cash-on-hand on the attendant's phone: uncashed till money, cash-up status, stock position and where to settle next.

POP-verified deposits

Deposits need a proof-of-payment image; the detector reads the slip, duplicates are blocked, the office approves — never re-keys.

Banking reconciliation

Expected vs cashed across every bank, Ecocash and swipe-settlement account, period by period, with voids kept for audit.

Field custody

Hard two-person rule: driver and site attendant sign every delivery and cash pickup — initiator's session plus counterparty's PIN. Cash-in-transit visible live.

Costed supply chain

Truck warehouses to depot tanks to filling to hubs to sites on one append-only ledger — and gas moves with its weighted-average cost.

Agents & credit customers

Stock on account for wholesale agents, credit sales against customer limits, receivable statements, payments and voids — all append-only.

Books stay current

A signed, idempotent feed posts each day's revenue, collections and deposits into double-entry books nightly — P&L and balance sheet without re-keying.

Statements & exports

Site, warehouse and truck ledger statements on your letterhead as PDF or Excel; reports filter by date, region, site and segment, then CSV.

Own-use gas, allocated

Generator, kitchen and staff consumption is metered to expense accounts — not blamed on the attendant as a loss.

Sign-off, security & audit

BDM → Ops → MD sign-off with separation of duties, witness-PIN voids, rate-limited PINs, append-only corrections, encrypted nightly backups.

Customer accounts & negotiated rates

Named customers with their own price per site, effective-dated — so the till charges the rate that was actually agreed, and a price change never rewrites yesterday's invoice.

Multi-scale, multi-tank sites

The attendant picks which scale weighed it and which tank it came from, on every sale. Each dial reconciles against its own sales and each tank keeps its own stock line.

Cash custody, end to end

Money never moves unwitnessed. Hand-overs to a driver, biker or supervisor are PIN-signed by both parties with a slip photo; region-scoped stand-ins cover a courier's day off without becoming permanent rights.

Cash hubs & safe holdings

A far-flung site can carry its takings to a nearer safe instead of waiting for a courier. The keeper counts it and signs it in — zero tolerance, no drift — and what they hold for other sites is a figure of its own, never blended with their own drawer.

Stock transfers between sites

A hub can send gas to a neighbour: despatch-note photo out, receiving attendant counts and signs for what actually arrived. Both legs post to the ledger, and a short delivery is a dispute, not a rounding.

Two tills, one tank

A busy hub can run two attendants at once. Every sale is tagged to whoever rang it and each keeps their own drawer and their own cash-up — while the stock still reconciles once, for the site.

Deposits that need proving

Banking is never one tap. A deposit needs its proof-of-payment, and the office attests to having checked it before the money counts as banked. Duplicate and doctored slips are caught on the way in.

Built for one bar of signal

The till sells with no signal at all. Sales and cash-ups queue on the handset and replay themselves when the network returns — with the same idempotency guards, so a double-send is never a double sale.

ZIMRA fiscalisation

Coming. Every sale filed to FDMS as it is rung, with fiscal receipts and day totals — so compliance is a by-product of selling rather than a month-end scramble.

Not another POS

Generic tills don't know what a tank dip is.

Every alternative your sites could run is either a point-of-sale system that thinks gas is a barcode, or a spreadsheet that believes whatever it's told.

Flux is the only system that natively reconciles gas against cash against tank — because it was forged inside a real multi-region LPG retailer, on real paper books, in real Zimbabwean trading conditions.

POS systemsneed hardware, power and training at 45 rural sites — and still can't see the tank.
Spreadsheetsreconcile nothing, forgive everything, and arrive at month-end when the money is gone.
Fluxworks on the attendant's own phone, checks everything, and reports the same evening.
Pricing

We only earn when the gas moves.

No licence fee, no per-seat charge, no hardware to buy. FLUX takes a small percentage of the value that flows through it — so the bill rises and falls with your own trading, and the rate drops as you grow.

What counts. Gross merchandise value is the gas you actually sold, measured on the business date from your own daily sheets. Voided sales, staff gas and your own generator or kitchen use are never counted, and takings in currencies other than US dollars are reported but not billed. Every invoice shows the working, so you can check it against your own books. A 14-day trial comes first, and nothing is billed until you go live.
